History of the Home

In 1990, during the latter stages of her illness and after years of dedication assisting the homeless, the sick and the dying, Charlotte Plowright expressed a strong desire to care for abandoned and needy children. A desire that followed a dream she had. Her untimely death prevented her from transforming this dream into reality. Her daughter, Beulah, envisioned this dream to be her own. Thus Home of Charlotte's Children Foundation was born.

This non-profit, non-governmental, non-denominational organization legally registered in Jamaica in 1996, was established to provide residential accommodation for orphaned, abandoned and needy children; provide custodial care, medical and financial assistance; and carry out programmes for the development of their education to a self sufficient standard.
On September 5, 1998 His Excellency - The Governor General of Jamaica, Sir Howard Cooke, friends and relatives locally and abroad took part in a beautiful ceremony at First Street, Albion, Montego Bay to officially open the doors of the Home.

Today the Home hosts children and teenagers without parents, or children from families where poverty mixes with domestic violence. The Institution provides not only food, clothes and a safe place to sleep, but, above all, a complete scholastic and psychological education.
Welcome to Home of Charlotte's Children, a Home that enables us to serve, protect and ensure the security of our children.
